Objectives
At the completion of this conference, attendees should be able to:* Understand the issues and treatment of substance abuse for persons with brain injury.
* Understand the key significant vocational factors when working with persons with brain injury.
* Understand traditional Chinese medical diagnosis and treatment.
* Understand the unique needs of individuals with cognitive disabilities in community-based environments and the individuals who provide support to them.
*Identify ways to assist survivors and families in coping with issues related to brain injury.
David Seaton, Founder/CEO LiveOak Living Community; Founder, Eden LifeLong Living, San Marcos, Texas. David has worked with adults with cognitive disabilities for more than 25 years.
Michael L. Newman, M.S., LPC, LMHP, Diplomate American Board of Vocational Experts. Michael is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Certified Job Placement Specialist and currently in private practice with Vocational Consulting Group, LLC.
Annette Pearson, MS, LADC, CBIS, Vinland National Center, Independence, Minnesota. Annette has a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling and is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, as well as chemical health assessor.
Jay Heaverlo, M.S., L.Ac., Midwest Acupuncture Clinic, Urbandale, Iowa. National Board Certified in Acupuncture and Licensed as an acupuncturist in the State of Iowa.
David Demarest, Ph.D. Clinical Neuropsychologist, On With Life, Ankeny and Glenwood, completed his post-doctorate fellowship at Rusk Rehabilitation Center in Columbia, Missouri and has worked in the field of brain injury rehabilitation for over 20 years. Panelists include a parent of a person served, a spouse of a person served, and Dave Anders, SLP, CBIS, Therapy Manager/Speech Language Pathologist, On With Life at Ankeny.
